At the same time, their own development work on the 81-mm mortar was started. Serial production took place at the Avia machines factory in Warsaw. After the release of 700 pieces, production was discontinued in 1931 due to an identified defect in the lifting mechanism and bipods. The real reason was the financial claims of the French in connection with the infringement of patent rights for the production of ammunition for mortars WZ. 18. At that time, a license was purchased from the French company Brandt, and in 1932 mass production began at the factories of the Association of Polish Mechanics from America in Pruszkow. The weapon consisted of a barrel with a bolt, legs and a base. Four threaded legs were used for aiming. The grenades weighed 3.2 kg and 6.5 kg. Flight stabilization was provided by four wings, for a heavy grenade they were extended after firing. Powder charges were attached to them to change the range. The grenades were of three types: high-explosive, smoke and incendiary. The mortar had a fixed-point needle, which allowed high-speed firing of up to 20 rounds per minute. There was also a trigger mechanism with a cord.

The 81 mm mortar was a weapon used by infantry and cavalry. He provided direct support to combat units in hilly terrain in the destruction of enemy manpower and firing centers. The mortar was disassembled into three parts, each of which could be carried by one soldier. The cavalry used special carts. In 1938 there were 899 wz. 18/31, 595 pcs. 28 and 648 wz. 18.
